Despite the fact that many independent tourists traditionally come to Finland from Russia, they see a strategic need to promote package tours in the opinion of representative of VisitFinland, ATOR reports.
According to representatives of Finnish tourism, this Nordic country as a tourist destination is not well known outside of St. Petersburg. Finland is often associated with year-round cold and Santa, and reindeer or husky riding is the only possible entertainment.
“One of the biggest problems in the market at the moment is the low depth of booking among Russians, which is why the most interesting and profitable accommodation options often go to more calculating Europeans”, emphasizes Alexandra Shakhnovich, VisitFinland coordinator for promotion and sales in Russia and the CIS. According to VisitFinland, in the demand trends in the organized market such products as sightseeing group tours, trips to Santa Claus to Lapland, ski resorts and SPA-hotels.
According to the observations of the Finnish tourist office, the main stream of organized tourists travels from St. Petersburg, Moscow, Karelia and Murmansk. This year, in Finland, there is a slight increase in tourist traffic from Moscow is predicted due to the opening of the Moscow-St. Petersburg high-speed highway, which will shorten by car a few hours from the Russian capital to Finland.
In addition, VisitFinland will promote products such as educational tourism, including camps and courses for children, themed advanced training trips for adults, and health tourism, which includes both traditional SPA tours and trips to Russia.
