The demand of Russians for ski tours this winter is growing, in some areas - up to 50%, the spokeswoman for the Russian Union of Travel Industry (PCT) Irina Tyurina told the Interfax-Tourism media.
“The current winter season is clearly better than last year - moreover, the demand covers the whole season, and not just the New Year holidays. One of the trends is the shift in demand from expensive holiday dates to low budget ones. Tourists prefer economical accommodation with access to wide ski areas or a high-budget individual product”, she said.
The PAC Group tour operator has demand for ski tours to Italy and Austria with arrivals from January to March exceed last year's figures by 15%. And interest in France grew by 50%. The main stimulus for the growth of the flow in the company was called programs with a departure not only from Moscow, but also from the regions.
“In France, the Three Valleys region, where the resorts of Courchevel, Meribel and Val Thorens are most in demand, is the most popular among Russian tourists. Last year, Russians spent 140 thousand nights there”, Irina Tyurina said.
In the BSI Group and MITS companies, France is in the first place in popularity among tourists. It is followed by Italy and Switzerland. “The sales structure has not changed much; both economical and expensive tours are booked. But there are also very large budgets. In general, Russian tourists began to perceive the economic situation in the country as stable and began to make plans for a longer period”, Irina Tyurina mentioned.
According to the rating of the Proalps media, the top 3 most popular Alpine ski resorts among Russians include the Italian Val di Fassa (78.2 thousand nights) and Val Gardena / Graden (72.8 thousand), as well as the French Courchevel (71.5 thousand).
Next in the ranking are the Austrian Sölden, Mayerhofen / Hippach and Zell am See / Kaprun, Madonna di Campiglio (Italy), Ischgl (Austria), as well as the French Meribel and Val Thorens.
