After three years of a stable decline, the market of public catering has started its gradual recovery since the second quarter of 2017. It is expected that growth of the industry in 2017 will reach 1–2% in monetary terms. The visitor traffic will increase by approximately 3% with the average check not exceeding the level of 2016.

In the structure of the Russian market of alcoholic products, a significant share is occupied by the beer segment – in 2017 it was accounting for approximately 83%. In the past year, market volume increased by 3.4% to the similar indicator of the previous year and reached 887.8 million decalitres.

Review of the Russian Beer Market

Beer production volumes in Russia have been declining since 2008. In 2016, beer output decreased by 0.4% compared with 2015, amounting to 727 million decalitres. The dynamics of beer production demonstrated slight growth in January–November 2017. During the time period in question, 687.2 million decalitres of beer were produced in Russia, which is 0.9% more than in the similar period of 2016.

According to the analysis of official statistics, the segment of flour confections (including cakes and pastries) is currently the most capacious segment of the Russian confectionery market, accounting for the share of 50.2% in the overall market volume in physical terms. Sugar confections occupy 30.2%, whereas the smallest share of 19.6% belongs to chocolate confections.
